Guitar Virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel in Concert at WSRE
Pensacola, Fla. — As part of a 22-city winter tour, legendary guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel will perform in concert on Sunday, February 24, 7 p.m. at the WSRE Jean and Paul Amos Performance Studio on the Pensacola State College campus. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at wsre.org/Tommy or by phone at (850) 484-1246. The performance is sponsored by Blues Angel Music.
“We are thrilled and honored Tommy Emmanuel chose to include a stop in Pensacola on his winter tour,” stated WSRE general manager Sandy Cesaretti Ray. “This will be the experience of a lifetime for many and we are proud to present this exciting cultural opportunity to our community.”
A two-time Grammy nominee, Australian native Tommy Emmanuel is one of the world’s most respected guitarists. He earned the rare title, shared by only three other people in the world, of “Certified Guitar Player” bestowed upon him by his longtime mentor and friend, Chet Atkins. The legendary guitarist has a professional career that spans almost five decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. Tommy's unique style — he calls it simply "finger style" — is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a whole band for melody, rhythm, bass and drum parts, Tommy plays all that, and more, on one guitar. Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to try this "fingerpicker" style as a child. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel's biggest fans.
