New Orleans-inspired Wine & Food Classic to feature Creole cuisine and zydeco

Tickets are on sale for the Ça C’est Bon WSRE PBS Wine & Food Classic on Saturday, March 29, on the main campus of Pensacola State College. The event’s marquee Walkabout Tasting will feature local chefs serving Creole-inspired cuisine and the music of Corey Ledet Zydeco from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the WSRE Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio. Tickets are $65.

Also available is a VIP ticket package, which includes the Crescent City Soirée on the college’s Morette Sky Terrace at the Bear, Jones, Moore, Reeves Center from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This rooftop reception will feature music by the 9th Avenue Brass Band, champagne and New Orleans-inspired cocktails, a cooking demonstration by New Orleans chef John Besh, and elevated hors d’oeuvres from local executive chefs Darian Hernandez, Irv Miller and Gus Silivos. VIP tickets are $125 and include entry to the Walkabout Tasting.

Louise and Dr. Brent Videau, chair of the WSRE-TV Foundation board of directors, are the honorary event chairs of this year’s WSRE PBS Wine & Food Classic.

ABOUT JOHN BESH:

John Besh is a chef and native son dedicated to the culinary riches of southern Louisiana. In his nine restaurants, entrepreneurial pursuits and public activities, he aims to preserve ingredients, techniques and heritage.

Besh’s talent and drive have earned him kudos throughout his career: Food & Wine named him one of the Top 10 Best New Chefs in America. He won the coveted James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Southeast in 2006 and was inducted into the Foundation’s Who’s Who in 2014. His nine acclaimed restaurants (August, Domenica, Luke, Pizza Domenica, Shaya, Willa Jean, Eunice and Tavi) each celebrate the bounty and traditions of the region. His flagship restaurant, August, is a Gayot Top 40 Restaurant and a Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Restaurant, in addition to being nominated in 2012 and 2013 for the James Beard Outstanding Restaurant Award and in 2014 for the Outstanding Service Award.

He hosted two national public television cooking shows based on his books, “Chef John Besh’s New Orleans,” which began airing in 2011, and “Chef John Besh’s Family Table,” which debuted in April 2013.

ABOUT COREY LEDET ZYDECO:

Grammy-nominated zydeco innovator Corey Ledet Zydeco is a world traveler, having performed in 15 countries. His numerous tours across North America have included countless festivals, private parties, major corporate events and weddings. 

In 2012, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for his “Nothin’ But the Best” album, and then again in 2021 when he was nominated for his self-titled album on Nouveau Electric Records, both of which are available on digital distribution sites.

Having thoroughly studied Creole culture and music, Ledet has a versatile and traditional sound that guarantees to please and rock any audience. He remains true to his roots, keeping one foot firmly in the tradition while exploring surrounding influences. He creates the best of both worlds, infusing old and new styles of zydeco and blues into his own unique sound.
